Olivier Giroud, despite 36 years on his neck, still looks great in the colors of AC Milan. Fabrizio Romano argues that the experienced sniper is focused on the last major international tournament, in which he will participate with the French national team. Later, however, he intends to sit down for talks with the Rossoneri on a new contract.

  • Olivier Giroud continues to impress with his form in AC Milan colors
  • For the time being, however, the striker wants to focus on the last World Cup of his career
  • After the tournament, the 36-year-old would like to sign a new contract with the Rossoneri. The current one expires at the end of the current season

First the World Cup, then a new deal

Probably not even the most avid AC Milan fans expected what a great transfer Olivier Giroud would turn out to be. The Frenchman arrived at the San Siro in the summer of 2021 as a free player. He was instrumental in helping the Rossoneri win the championship from the spot, and he continues to guarantee numbers on the offensive this season.

The 36-year-old sniper’s current contract expires on June 30, 2023. Italian media are reporting that the Milanese are most eager to extend the partnership with their charge already. However, this one has only one thing on his mind at the moment – the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. Giroud already has one title to his credit, won four years ago in Russia. Despite his advanced age, the footballer seems a brick-and-mortar candidate to be in Didier Deschamps’ squad. He will most likely play a reserve role, but is certainly hoping to increase his goal output. He is already only two goals short of equaling the most successful player in Les Bleus history, Thierry Henry. Equaling or breaking the record at the World Cup would certainly have a special flavor.

After the tournament, however, the 36-year-old would like to sit down with Milan to negotiate. The player feels great in the Lombardy capital and feels he can still help the team with his experience and skills.

Giroud has appeared in 19 games for the Rossoneri this season. He recorded nine goals and four assists in them.
