Sergio Busquets will most likely end his long-standing association with Barcelona after the season. The midfielder is most often linked with a transfer to Major League Soccer, but now two clubs from Sudan Arabia have joined the battle for his services.
- Sergio Busquets is still an important part of Barcelona and the Spanish national team, but after the season he will most likely leave Europe
- The Spaniard has repeatedly said that he dreams of playing in America
- Now two clubs from Saudi Arabia will also compete for his services
Another year at Barcelona, America or Arabia – what decision will Busquets make?
There are crucial months ahead for Sergio Busquets. The Spaniard is now preparing for what is likely to be the last major tournament of his career, although Luis Enrique stresses that he will try to convince the midfielder to attend the World Cup in four years.
The 34-year-old’s contract with Barcelona runs only until the end of the current season. While fans and experts remain unforgiving of a player who clearly has fallen behind in clashes with his strongest rivals, this one remains a key figure for Xavi Hernandez. The club reportedly wants to offer the captain a contract for another year. He would function during it as Xavi himself did during his last season at the Blaugrana. He would sit on the substitutes’ bench more often, but would still make an important contribution to the team’s play. Most likely, though, Busquets will sign out of European soccer on July 1. It has long been rumored that he intends to try his hand at Major League Soccer. He is certainly not suffering from a lack of offers from the United States. On Wednesday, however, it was reported that two clubs from Saudi Arabia will also try to tempt the veteran. We don’t know the details so far. Who knows, maybe in a year’s time we’ll be able to watch an Al-Shabab team with a midfield consisting of Gregor Krychowiak – Sergio Busquets – Ever Banega?
The Blaugrana captain has played 16 games in all club competitions this season. He has recorded one assist in them.
